Founded in 2017, Matty’s Place C.I.C is a dedicated supported accommodation provider based in Birmingham, specializing in housing and supporting individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Our mission is to create a safe, stable, and nurturing environment where our tenants can rebuild their lives with dignity and support.
We go beyond simply providing a roof over someone's head. At Matty’s Place, we believe that genuine support involves a holistic approach. Our experienced team delivers weekly person-centred support sessions tailored to each tenant’s individual needs, ensuring they receive the care, guidance, and encouragement they need to move forward.
In addition to housing and support services, we are proud to combat food poverty through our surplus food distribution program. We have established strong partnerships with major retailers such as Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury’s, M&S, and Greggs, allowing us to provide our tenants—and the wider community—with access to free, high-quality surplus food on a daily basis. In fact, in 2020 we were recognized as the largest surplus food distributor for FareShare, a testament to our dedication and community impact.

Supported accommodation is housing that includes extra help for people who need support to live more independently. This support can include help with things like managing bills, mental health, life skills, and getting back into work or education. It's designed to provide a stable environment where individuals can rebuild their lives.
Eligibility varies depending on the provider, but generally, supported accommodation is for people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, including those with mental health needs, substance misuse issues, young people leaving care, or people fleeing domestic abuse. At Matty’s Place C.I.C, we assess each person individually to see how we can best support them.
Regular housing is just a place to live, with no extra support. Supported accommodation, on the other hand, comes with help tailored to your needs—whether that’s learning how to budget, attend appointments, improve wellbeing, or prepare to live independently. The aim is to help you move on successfully when you're ready.
Not always. While supported accommodation is primarily for people who are homeless or at immediate risk of homelessness, we also support those in unsafe or unsuitable housing, such as people fleeing domestic violence or leaving institutional care. If you’re unsure, it’s worth reaching out—we’re happy to talk through your situation.
It depends on your needs and progress. Some people stay a few months, others longer. At Matty’s Place C.I.C, we create a person-centred support plan and regularly review it with you. The ultimate goal is for you to move on to independent living when you're ready and confident to do so.
Most supported accommodation have minimum age requirements, usually 18+. At Matty’s Place C.I.C, we mainly support adults, but we do take special circumstances into account and work with referral agencies to find the best solution. If you’re under 18, we’ll help connect you to the right services.
You can apply through local authorities, probation services, or support agencies who refer individuals to us. You can also get in touch directly—either by calling, emailing, or using our website—and we’ll walk you through the process or help you get referred properly.
At Matty’s Place C.I.C, support is a mandatory part of what we offer—so yes, it's a required part of your stay. But it’s not about controlling your life; it’s about making sure you get the help you need to move forward. We work with you, not for you, and your support plan is built around what matters most to you. Our aim is to support your independence and success, at your pace.
